Shunyata Improvisation Group: Asymmetry

  • The Globe 11 Railway Street Newcastle upon Tyne, England, NE4 7AD United Kingdom (map)

This concert focuses upon the aesthetic Asymmetry; meaning avoiding uniformity and working with the irregular and incomplete.

"Uniformity of design was considered fatal to the freshness of imagination." - Kakuzō Okakuro

In everything, no matter what it may be, uniformity is undesirable. Leaving something incomplete makes it interesting, and gives one the feeling that there is room for growth.” - Yoshida Kenkō

We welcome Sax Player Thomas Dixon a fine improviser to open the afternoon with an improvised set. Thomas’s improvisations are diverse, sparky, lapsing into beauty and rousing the heart and mind.

Shunyata Improvisation Group is trubba not [guitar], Mark Carroll [cello], NofC [voice/percussion/melodeon] and John Garner [violin/shakuhachi/percussion].
